Default Dryer runs but no heat
Brand: Kenmore   Age: 5 - 10 years

I'm trying to fix my girlfriend's dryer. She got a washer and dryer free from a moving sale. I'm guessing its over 5yrs old, still has the wood grain paneling on the front. The dryer is a Kenmore, but thats all I really know. It is electric. So we plugged it in and it runs the motor, timer works, but no hot air.

I've been reading on here about checking the heating element, thermal fuse, door switch, etc.... But here is my question. The dryer only has a 120v cord coming out the back. I understand that the heating element requires 240v but there is no cord for that coming off the dryer.

Does the 120v run into to a power converter inside the dryer? That creates the 240v in order to run the heating element? There are wall outlets for both. I was just puzzled when I went to install it. I was expecting the heavy duty 240 plug to be there. Not the standard 120 three prong plug.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks
