Have an older portable (convertible) Maytag dishwasher. Two problems--leaks at bottom of the door (suspect its a door seal) and rinse and soap aid dispenser won't open during cycle. The door will open very fast when the clip is bumped and it takes a little tension to close it (so it may not be the spring) any advice what it could be? Its an older dishwasher so I don't want to put a lot of $$ into it, but at the same time--if a simple repair will give me a "new" washer . . . Thanks

Thanks Taxedout, You most likely have a bad wax motor on the detergent cup mechanism, Part number: AP4110779
Do you know if the rinse aid dispenser operates ? That would help determine if we've got a bad timer . As for the leak at the door, You may have a loose door latch assembly, on the tub. On the lip of the tub , under the latch, you will find a 5/16" bolt, loosen the bolt and tap the catch assembly back (a little at a time) until there's a tight fit. You would also need to check the lower spray arm, You need to check to make sure the seam has not split, there is no deposits or debris in the openings on the end and bottom of the arm, and that the lower spray assembly moves freely. I don't think you have anything major wrong, just age , and basic wear and tear. Good Luck, Happy Holidays, :) :) :)

I have not used the rinse aid dispenser for a long time--is there a way to verify if it is working or not? Would putting "colored" water in the rinse aid dispenser be a good way to see if it is working? thanks

We'll still, have to separate the door and get involved in the wiring and wax motors, but we'll have a better idea of where we're going. :) :) :)

:) :) :) Tightening the door latch helps the leak some but not all. Thought water was coming from bottom of door--it's coming from top and dripping down. Door latch is adjusted as tight as it can be. Door seems to be off set. only 1/4" gap on left (facing washer) and 3/8" on right. Red dye test in rinse applicator--dye as red as red slush puppy. Put the washer through the rinse cycle--white surface in sink--no detectible color change in rinse. Have hard water--no softener. Any thoughts? Thanks

Thanks Taxed, Looks like we'll need a multi meter and, to separate the door. We'll need to check for voltage to the dispenser assembly,wiring,to determine wether we have a bad timer or wiring problem. While it's apart, we can check the door hinges and frame for loose, damaged, components, causing the door not to close properly. :) :) :)
