Wondering if there is supposed to be lubrication in the inner part of the basket hub

Parts or tests already tried: I am in the process of replacing the bearings on the vertical drive shaft in a Kenmore top load washer. Disassembly was being rather difficult because the basket just did not want to lift out of the tub. When I finally got the basket out started a huge amount of cleaning everything in this old washer before I started to install the bearings and reassemble unit. When cleaning I noticed there was a large amount of brown goop inside the part of the basket hub that normally slides up and down on the drive shaft. My question centers on whether there is expected to be some type of lubricant in basket hub or is that normally just using water in the tub as a lubricant.

Photo linked below shows the hub of the washer basket. The black rim of the hub is a plastic sleeve that is the same diameter as the slide up/down part of the drive shaft. The part of the sleeve that is the shaft diameter goes down into the hub about one inch, Likewise the part from the bottom of the basket extends up into the hub about an inch from the bottom. The center part of the hub is slightly larger in diameter and this is the area where I found all the sticky brown goop.

No there typically isn’t lubricant where the hub slides up and down on the shaft

Thanks, That is helpful. I did not think there should be lubrication in the basket hub. The brown gunk I found in there is probably a mix of grease from the failed seal, laundry detergent and dirt from washing.
