Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: WTW5600SQ0
Main Symptom: Not spinning
What happens & when: I’m writing about an issue with my Whirlpool top-load washing machine, model WTW5600SQ0. It’s at least 15 years old.
Recently, after washing heavy loads (towels and sweaters), the washer completed the cycle, but the clothes were left sopping wet, as if the spin cycle did not occur. This had never happened before.
I tried running the washer on a spin-only cycle. At first, it did remove excess water, but the washer began to vibrate heavily and “walk” across the floor. The machine is level, and this behavior is new.
On a later load of towels, the same issue occurred again. When I selected the spin cycle, nothing happened at all. After removing about half the towels, the washer then began spinning normally and was able to extract the water.
Based on this behavior:
The washer can spin, but only with lighter loads
Heavy loads cause the spin cycle to fail or shut down
