Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: WTW4950XW0
Main Symptom: won’t fill with hot water
What happens & when: The washer will not run a hot cycle. If I run the sink nearest to the washer on hot, the washer will start filling up with hot water but then quickly switch to cold. If I pause the cycle, run the sink again, and resume the cycle, the water will get hot again, but only for a very short period of time. At best, I end up with a washer filled with slightly warm water (if I stop and run the sink multiple times), but if I just let it fill it will be cold. Is this a problem with the part that senses temperature? Or something else?
There should be two black wires at connection J3 of the main control. If you unplug the power cord, disconnect the wire set from connection J3 and test the two black wires for resistance to each other, this will help identify if the issue is in the thermistor or the main control. The thermistor should measure between 49K to 51K Ohms at a room temperature of 77 degrees. If the thermistor is out of this range, the harness AP6019970 would need to be replaced. If the thermistor tests good, the main control AP5185372 would be the likely cause of failure.
