Whirlpool won't stay on, won't shut off

First problem was that the dryer would turn on when i pressed the on button, but not stay on. So, I took Mickey Mouse under my belt :o and wedged a stick between the on button and the shelf above it. This worked flawlessly  : Dryer went on when I turned the dial and shut off when it reached the end of its cycle (yes, i just left the stick in place) …
Until it didn’t (work flawlessly, that is).
Now, it also doesn’t shut off at end of cycle time. It still operates “normally” with button forced down, but at end of cycle, the heat goes off, but not the motor. It does not have wrinkle cycle (that I’m aware of).
It does stop when door is opened and when I remove the stick.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken

I cannot find any tech info on this unit.
Using the info on other units that the timer is used, I did find the attached but it could be very different from yours.

Open up your control console and see if the wiring diagram is in there.
A lot depends on how close your unit matches the attached wiring diagram, in other words I am guessing.

The original problem may have been with the motor’s centrifugal switch.
The contacts %m?6M should have closed once the unit got close to operating speed. These contacts are in parallel with the start switch and keep the motor running when you release the start switch.

The current problem sounds like the timer contacts Y/BG have welded together.
