Whirlpool WFE525S0JZ0 - oven range light stays on when door closed after E1 err F5 code

Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: WFE525S0JZ0
Main Symptom: oven light stays on
What happens & when: I ran a self-clean cycle. When I checked the oven at the end of the cycle, an E1 err F5 code was showing. I was able to open the oven door at this time. I turned off the breaker to reset the oven, came back to check and the oven door was locked closed. Code has since cleared.

I opened up the back to manually open the oven door. Removed oven door motor/switch to check with multimeter. Motor showed 1800 ohms on multimeter. Switch trigger is currently pressed in and shows continuity (~0 ohms). (Could not disengage the switch trigger to check.) Reinstalled motor/switch - no code but the oven light doesn’t turn off when door is closed. Turned the light switch on and off.

Toggled the door trigger, which moves freely. Tested the door latch switch, which shows continuity (~0 ohms) when the oven door is closed and ~0.7 ohms when open.

Motherboard looks good visually. Oven light remains continuously on. Range has worked without any issues until this event.

RESOLVED: Gave the control panel on the front of the range a “Fonzie” slap while the unit was powered and the motor switch reset.

Error Code (if any): initially E1 err F5, which is no longer showing
Parts or tests already tried: checked latch motor and switch and door latch switch with multimeter

It sounds like the oven control had an issue with a relay or two sticking. The “Fonzie” slap would have loosened things up and allowed it to work for the time being (this was a great method for temporarily fixing washer timers that would stick in a spin cycle). With this being the case, the oven control is likely to fail again. W11594188 Range User Interface Control Board | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock
