Whirlpool Washer Model: WTW4855HW3

I’m hoping someone can help me troubleshoot this before I spend more money replacing additional parts.

Original problem:
The washer became stuck in a continuous drain cycle. As soon as it was plugged in, the drain pump would run automatically and would not stop. Because of that symptom, I ordered and installed a new OEM control board (Part #W11607637 / AP7193509).

After installing the new control board:

  • The control board was calibrated successfully (multiple times).
  • The drain pump no longer runs continuously like it did before.
  • The washer will complete the calibration cycle.
  • Drain and Spin functions operate normally.

Current problem:
The Normal cycle will not operate correctly.

What happens:

  • Sometimes the lid locks and sometimes it doesn’t initially.
  • The inlet water valve will start and stop repeatedly every few seconds while making a humming/clicking sound.
  • Other times it fills continuously and does not stop.
  • The water level rises well beyond where it should, and it never transitions into the wash/agitate cycle.
  • If I manually stop the cycle, the water supply shuts off immediately.
  • I can then use Drain & Spin to empty the tub without any issues.

Things already checked:

  • Pressure hose was inspected.
  • The damaged end of the pressure hose was trimmed and reinstalled.
  • The hose appears securely attached and doesn’t come loose when pressure is applied.
  • Multiple calibrations have been performed.
  • Water supply is normal.
  • New control board is a genuine OEM part from AppliancePartsPros.

At this point, I’m wondering if I’m dealing with:

  • a pressure sensing issue,
  • a faulty pressure hose or pressure port,
  • a wiring issue,
  • an inlet valve problem,
  • or if the replacement control board itself could be defective.

What would be the next thing you would test before I start replacing more parts? If it requires a new part, what would you suggest?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds like a pressure system issue. Take that pressure house off the port on the tub and run a 3/16" drill bit back and forth by hand to clear any debris or flashing. Then reattach the hose securely, make sure there are no pinch points or kinks in it and that it isn’t stretched. Once everything is back together, add a couple of cups of white vinegar to the tub and run a Clean Washer cycle, that should flush any debris and detergent residue out of the system.

I hired a tech to come by and showed him this message. Unfortunately, it continued doing the same. He advised it could be the shift actuator or the fact that I received a faulty control board. I ordered a shift actuator. With what that part is designed to do and the issue I’m facing, do you believe that could be the fix?

The shift actuator only shifts between agitation and spin, and measures the speed of the motor when spinning, it shouldn’t cause a particular cycle to act in the manner you’ve described.

If you run the manual test mode in diagnostics, does it seem like everything is operating correctly? Valves putting in water at the same rate, drains well, spins, agitates, etc.
