Whirlpool washer has rust and it is wrecking our clothes, HELP!

I have a 3 year old Whirlpool front loading washer. For a few months I have noticed little black colored rings every now and then on our clothes. They are permanent and I can not get them out. I finally stuck my head in the dryer and there is a large part, with little holes, that is totally rusted. I am NOT handy at all and I live out of the way in a little town in Alaska so a service call will be very expensive. It is the metal part with little holes about the size of a pencil eraser that keeps the clothes & junk from going OUT of the dryer to the exterior vent. It doesn’t appear to be a separate part, it appears to be part of the interior itself, so it doesn’t look like it can be popped out and replaced??

I was wondering if anyone has a solution for this that a novice do it yourself person could do? Is there a way to coat it so the rust doesn’t get on our clothes? Remove the rust? Replace that part? Thanks!!!

Edited to add that it is an electric dryer, not gas.

anyone have any ideas??
