A couple of things you can check that may help identify the cause of the issue.
First, inspect the wiring harness for any broken or frayed wires, as well as any burnt or damaged connectors, especially at the motor and motor capacitor.
Next, make sure no grease has gotten onto the clutch. It only takes a small amount—even a single drop—to cause the clutch to slip. Remove the clutch assembly and try rotating the band inside the clutch bell by hand. If it turns with little to no resistance, the clutch (https://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-clutch-assembly-285785-ap3094537.html) is worn and will need to be replaced.
Then, check the brake assembly that the clutch engages with. Rotate the cam by hand and verify that the brake shoes fully disengage from the brake bell. When the brake shoes are released, the tub should rotate freely.
If the brake shoes disengage properly but the tub is still difficult to turn, there may be another issue causing the resistance. A damaged spin tube (W10820043 Washer Basket Drive | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock) could be binding the mechanism, or an article of clothing may be trapped between the inner and outer tubs, preventing the tub from turning normally.
Once everything has been reassembled, test the washer again. If the problem persists, please reach back out to us. At that point, we can walk you through some more in-depth electrical checks on the timer, motor, and related components to help pinpoint the cause of the issue.
We’ll be happy to continue troubleshooting with you and help determine the next best steps.
