Whirlpool washer does not engage when in wash mode-just a grunting sound

Main Symptom:when it moves to wash mode, it does not agitate, only a rhythmical grunting/clicking noise made from the bottom of the machine.
What happens & when:Washing machine fills with water. Moves to wash mode. Does not begin washing, only hear a rhythmical grunting/clicking noise coming from the bottom of the machine.

If the washer is put into a diagnostic mode (see attached image), the cycle knob rotated clockwise until only the done LED is illuminated, the start button can be pressed to enter into the fault code display mode. If the cycle knob is rotated clockwise 1 click, is there an LED flash pattern and if there is, what pattern shows up?
