What happens & when:

I have opened the back panel of the refrigerator and there was ice on the coils. The drain is full and I still need to defrost it.

I thought it needed a defrost thermostat but the one that came did not match anything. I was told it should be attached/clipped to the coil. This picture is our refrigerator unit behind the freezer panel. And below is a close up of the wiring/etc. And last is the part,WPW

Your model uses a thermal fuse and not a defrost thermostat. here is the part you will need. W11545823 Refrigerator Wire Harness | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock

So to install, everything snaps into place, no wire cutting etc needed?

Correct, it is part of a plug and play wire harness.
