Whirlpool oven does not light, stove works fine

I have a whirlpool oven ( sf362lxsb )

For the last few months I knew the oven was going out, because as it was baking every 10 or so minutes you could hear clicking… I sounded like either a solenoid clicking or the sparks… It would like 5 or 6 times then stop…

Now the oven does not light at all… The stove stopped working also…

After checking the valve I noticed the safety valve switch thing had tripped, I reset it and now the stove works, but the oven will not light…

After researching online I learned to check the gas valve for 216 ohms… I checked and both the broiler and bake read 205/206ish so I don’t think it’s the valve.. I’m thinking its more likely the igniters?

Am I on the right track?

i get paid tomorrow, and was hoping to buy the part as soon as possible… does it look like i figured it out? is the ignitor the right one to order?

thanks!

Hi Pop,

Is it the same problem with both Bake and Broil?

If the oven igniter does not click at all then the problem is a bad spark module.

If the Bake igniter does click and you can hear the gas flows but there is no flame, remove the Bake burner and check the lighting holes for any restrictions. Make sure the igniter is clean and properly aligned with the burner.

It’s very rare for such igniter to be bad.

i have not checked broil, but on bake i hear it trying to click, but i dont hear/smell gas

i will check the ignitors when i get home to ensure they are unobstructed/clean

i will also check the broiler

also what is the difference between the burner you posted and the one posted in my original post?

The part number I posted comes up by the model number you provided.

Got home to check, bake and broil are both not functioning. I hear clicks, nothing lights… Stove still works fine… Should I test the gas valve again with the multi meter?

Yes, it is very good idea. Do not forget to remove wires from the terminals.

to be clear… do i need to have the oven plugged in while i check for ohms? it was unplugged before with the wires disconnected from the valve…

i will check it again tonight, and ill have my wife take pictures. thanks for your patience!

The range has to be unplugged unless you need to check voltage.

I purchased the whirlpool and the igniter went in eight months they replaced it for free then I started noticing that the oven wasn’t heating up properly so I got smart I outsmarted the oven To get your oven to start put on two of the burners on top wait about five minutes it’s not pulling the gas through it works every time I’m amazed I don’t know what prompted me to put the burners on before starting to bake it works every time try it
