The original dishwasher detergent dispenser (W10224429) was leaking rinse aid through the bottom of the assembly. I ordered replacement part W10199696 from a company called Filters Fast. Right out of the box the detergent lid would not latch. I returned it and was sent a new one and the lid also did not latch. I was told once it is “properly” installed into the door that the lid would latch but it does not. I get that it needs power to unlatch the lid once it reaches the appropriate time of the cycle but it should be able to be manually closed no matter what, correct?
Does this part have a defect? I noticed there is a WPW10199696 part but it appears to be the same.

Hello Chansen1970, you are correct that the lid should be able to latch regardless of it being installed or not. One thing worth checking is if the latch is lining up to the lock tab on the lid. When you try to close the lid, does the release tab stay sticking out as if it is stuck in an unlock state?
I can move the tab so I know it isn’t sticking open. I have even tried to close the lid tightly and move the tab to the latching position but that didn’t work. It seems more like something isn’t lining up. I’m assuming you haven’t heard that this part is defective. I guess I can keep sending parts back until I get one that does latch.
Yes. I also just spoke to Filters Fast and was told that other customers are having the same issue so they reached out to the manufacturer and was told that it is simply manufactured poorly. They were also told that if you close it very tightly it will latch, which is not true. It’s unfortunate that I am stuck with an assembly that will not hold rinse aid.
Based on the image, it looks like the locking tab is lined up with where the latch should engage. It may be possible that the tab hook is not spaced up far enough for the latch to lock in place.
