Whirlpool Dishwasher not draining

Great! Thanks for the response! I will check this.

You are welcome. Keep us posted.

Gene.

I have a whirlpool mod# DV945PWPQO that drains very slowly. I removed the hose and let it drain directly into a bucket and it drained slow. I looked at the check valve and all seems well. The dishwasher also will not drain completely.

The model number you posted does not come up. Verify and repost it.

Sorry thats a DU945PWPQO…Can’t read my own writing…

Have you unscrew it (#15 on the diagram) from the pump?

Gene.

Yes, I unplugged the hose, removed the valve and blew some air thru it to make sure it was clear

Did you do the same thing with the drain hose?

Gene.

No, but I will right now…

I removed the hose and it is clear. I put some water in the dish washer and drained it straight thru the valve and it is still draining very slowly.

There is a clip that holds the flap in the check valve. I removed the clip and the flap and did find a blockage that looked like it was part if the valve before I removed the flap…going to re install and re try

still draining slowly

Remove the check valve and make sure the hole in the pump plate is clear. See how water will go without the check valve.

Is there another way to get to the check valve? I have tried every sort of way to get the wash impeller screw off but it is on tight. I am afraid of damaging the wash impeller as I try to get it off. I have a Whirlpool GU980CGQ3. The unit is 9 years old so I am not going to drop huge money into a fix since I am at the tale end of it’s life.

You have to remove the drain hose from the check valve (#15 on the diagram) and unscrew the check valve. There are no other ways to check it. I did not understand why you went to the impeller. It has nothing to do with the drain problem.

Because I was going to from the top as I followed the diagram that the check valve shows it on. It was not until you sent the one with the front door assembly that I realized that it was right behind the access panel :o
Cleaned the valve and did a quick rinse. Drained fine. Thanks Gene!!

You are welcome. I’m glad you were able to fix it.

Does this also apply to Whirlpool dishwasher Model DU945PWPT0? And in your response from above:

are you saying unscrew the valve?

Thanks,
j

Yes. The clogged check valve is one of the most common cause for slow drain in such pumps.
