What is this part I found in my laundry? (picture included)

After what was evidently a very unbalanced load, I found this plastic piece in my laundry. What the heck is it?

It’s part of your lid switch. What is the model number of the washer?

Model LXR7244JQ0
Just a quick question, though. Everything still seems to work. Do I really need to replace this?

I’m suprised it still drains/spins. It shouldn’t if lid switch is not functioning. That piece is what activates the switch when the lid strike is against it when lid is closed. Either the lid switch is bypassed or it’s stuck closed. I would replace it.

I have a feeling it’s either bypassed or stuck closed then. I bought it used 6-7 years ago and it has never stopped draining or spinning with the lid open.

Probably bypassed. If you ever have kids in the area, you should install a new switch. It’s a safety thing.

Thanks for the help. As long as I can keep my own hands out of harm’s way I should be good (no children).
