Water dispenser handle gets stuck in “on” position

Brand: GE
Model Number: GSCF3PGXGFWW
Main Symptom: water dispenser handle gets stuck in “on” position - handle is very loose
What happens & when: when water dispenser handle is pressed, it sticks and causes water to flow - difficult to get handle to shut off water flow

Error Code (if any): none
Parts or tests already tried: we replaced water dispenser handle. The old one was dangling due to broken tab. But new handle is still loose and still sticks in the “on” position. We also replaced the ice chute where the water handle attaches to, but it did not solve the problem.

the dispenser switch ( GE WR23X10783 Refrigerator Dispenser Switch | Genuine OEM Part ) is a micro switch it does not provide any tension to the lever that is the purpose of the spring. If the switch was bad it wouldn’t dispense
