Wash motor squeaks when it stops

Hello,
My Whirlpool’s dishwasher motor squeaks when it stops. It sounds sort of like a rubber type of braking squeak. But as far as I know, there is no actual braking mechanism to stop the motor; the motor should just stop spinning.

It has been doing this for about a week now, so is not related to anything being washed. I am also confident that this noise is happening when the motor stops. I initially thought it happens when the drain pump starts, but that is definitely not the case.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,

What is the complete model number of the dishwasher?

Gene.

Forgot… it is a Whirlpool GU2400XTPS6

I should probably just take it apart and look at it. Maybe the action of the motor stopping is causing it to shift or something.

Jason,

You might be right. Remove the upper parts from the pump and check for a foreign objects inside.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL GU2400XTPS6 DISHWASHER | AppliancePartsPros.com

The attached instructions will help you to take it apart.

Thanks; I’ll take a look.

I’ve been in there before. Unfortunately from the top all I can do is look for foreign objects as you suggest. Inspecting the motor and how it attaches to the sump has to be done from the bottom.

I’ll post back in a day or two if I find the cause.
