Triton dishwasher wont drain fully

my dishwasher just started acting up. it does not drain all the way .
I have taken it apart, clean out any buildup (which was none). I checked to make sure that the pump works and it does. the hoses wer not clogged. but I did find that the Piston assembly for check valve
rubber gasket was old and falling apart. will this have an effect on the drainage?

this is the only think that i can see it meesed up on the machine. i dont have a secondary pump on this model so I am at a loss. any help would be welcomed

thanks

Phillip,

The cone part of the piston is very important for proper drainage.

Here are the break down diagrams for the GE dishwasher Model GSD5560G00SS

yea Gene, that is the part I am talking about. it looks like the cone bit is dry rotted. it I replace that will it drain then?

I wish to know answers on such questions - I would have more $$$ than Bill Gates.

Gene.

well what does that part do? I just ordered it so we shall see. I will let you know what happens and then you will know as I know.

phil

This part works as a directional switch.

Gene.

First, Gene, your posts are excellent and very informative. Many thanks.

Second (and more importantly ;-)), I have similar drainage issues but I am leery of the piston/nut being the cause. The dishwasher drains fine when the discharge tube is lowered, but not when mounted at sink level (where air vent is affixed to sink).

I have cleared all screens and plugs in pipes/tubes and since it drains fine when tube is lowered, it seems to indicate a pump that is beginning to fail (part 325 in diagram?). It just doesn’t seem to have enough ‘umph’ to push water up the extra 18".

I’m not sure what your explanation of the ‘directional’ function of the piston/nut assembly means…but it would seem to be out of play here since it drains fine if tube is lowered.

Does it seem logical to assume the pump that’s failing?

Again, many thanks.

Because it drains with the hose lowered does not mean anything, sorry… When the washer drains, water runs underneath the piston causing it to move upward, and plug the hole in the tub, if this piston head is worn, what happens is as the water is traveling under the piston, the water will travel back into the tub instead of out the drain hose…As for drain pumps, usually they work or they don’t. So if the pump is working it is most likely good. Couple things to check, obviously the piston nut. If that is good, meaning a good seal, not a bunch of crud around the spring not letting it close…Take the drain hose off at the dishwasher end, and then unscrew that nipple, and check for debri…Now I say all this without you posting a model#, so I am assuming you have the same washer as the first post. Not all dishwashers have the same setup.

Thanks abadfish66.

I’ll revisit the piston/nut conditions. Still seems odd that it drains fine with the tube lowered but not when raised (…maybe a little more pressure coming back on the piston/nut assembly causing it to fail.)

I’ll loop back and post my results.

Cheers!

Gene
Hey man I installed that assembly and it works like a charm thanks for yout help. It only took 5 minutes.

Phil

Hi Phil,

We are glad you were able to fix it. Happy Holidays!

Gene.

Gene - we have the same problem with GE Triton XL model GSD6600G02BB. Is this the same as the one that Phil has? We have the same problem - failure to drain.

Hi Liz,

Your model is pretty similar to Phil’s and this problem is the most common for these dishwashers. I would recommend to follow all of the above instructions. Post the results.

Gene.

…Dishwasher won’t drain completely… I have a kenmore built-in (model 665.15622)… Water will not drain completely… However when I turn the dial to the drian cycle ( after a complete washing cycle) It will drain completely! It’s as though the washer will not stay in drian cycle long enough to completely drain water…Any ideas!!!

sjs02hfx,

Does the dishwasher have to be removed from the cabinetry to service this part. It looks like on mine it is only accessible from the back.

What is the complete model number of the dishwasher?

What exactly is wrong with it?

Won’t drain completely, maybe 3/4" water left in tub.

he message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.

My GE Triton Power II diswasher is not draining out water completely. I have cleaned all the clogs etc. Looks like piston and nut is broken. I opened 4 screwes in the rear but not sure how to take out Piston and Nut so that i can replace this with new one. \r\n\r\npls advice.

Just unscrew it (CCW).
