Brand: Whirlpool Model Number: LSR8233EQ0 Main Symptom: won’t proceed through cycles What happens & when: My top load whirlpool washer won’t proceed through cycles. It’s intermittent. Sometimes it will go through a full cycle. Sometimes it stops filled with water after agitating and won’t rinse/spin/drain. Sometimes it stops mid Rinse/drain. It used to only happen on large loads then it started on small loads but is inconsistent. I can sometimes unplug the machine and wait a few minutes then plug it back and manually move the cycle to drain and it will drain. There is also a subtle/slight burning smell that comes from the washer when this happens (it’s unplugged currently)

My first suspicion would be the lid switch (LSR8233EQ0). It is a safety switch that prevents the washer from advancing past the agitate cycle if the lid isn’t safely closed. Judging by your symptoms I’d say it is getting progressively worse. If you are familiar with a multi-meter I can guide you thru testing it
Ok so it wasn’t the switch. I replaced it and ran a load and this time it stopped just after cooldown and right before rinse. There was no sound coming from the knob/timer I should mention. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it didn’t progress. So I turned the knob to rinse and it’s now filling/proceeding. Beginning to think it’s the timer/knob. But perhaps you have other ideas?
*edit it stopped mid rinse. So I unplugged it and let it sit. Then when I plugged it back in and I manually advanced the dial to spin/drain and pulled the knob there is a humming sound (and no spin etc) I could also hear the knob/timer making its typical ticking sound while the humming is heard.
Sounds almost like water valve buzzing. Is it coming from the area near the cycle knob? If the valves are operating properly and that noise is coming from the timer area I’d suspect a bad timer contact. What part of the cycle are you trying to start the washer in when you made that recording? Just trying to wrap my head around it since i’m not there
I think it may have something to do with the load knob. Since I when I moved it from “small” to “medium” it started again but then stopped. Isn’t there some mechanism that gauges how much water is in the washer?
The hum is coming from the machine. The timer is still ticking even with the hum.
The recording was in the “Rinse” portion of the cycle. Then I moved it to “spin” (the final spin) and it still made humming noise. After I unplug it for a while I can get it to proceed manually turning the knob
the level gauge is a simple diaphragm switch that operates off changes in air pressure as the washer fills. There is a clear rubber tube that attaches to a pressure dome on the bottom of the tub and runs up to the pressure switch in the control panel. NO moving parts and nothing I can think of that would buzz
