Timer Problem?

When timer is turned to desired time and then pushed in to start, everything starts normally but as soon as you stop pushing in on timer everything stops. Basically it will dry your clothes as long as you stand there pushing in the start knob. Any ideas why? The timer mechanism itself appears to be working, you can hear it clicking away. Thanks for your time!!!

Well, it is unfortunate that the push to start mechanism is in the timer, because you have two possibilities here. One is the push to start mechanism, the other is the motor, and both of these are expensive parts. Even worse, the way to tell which is the problem is to replace them.

When the push to start is a separate item, and costs very little I recommend buying it and seeing if that is the problem. In your case you will have to decide how you want to proceed, or it may be the case that a new dryer is in order, and in that situation you know for certain you will have a working machine.

Thanks for the reply. All my research in the manuals has led me to the same conclusion. The start to run switch is in fact part of the timer. The motor has a start/run switch that evidently requires replacement of the entire motor. I believe a new dryer IS in order. Thanks again.

A good decision I think.

I suggest a basic machine, and that you avoid, if possible, ones with micro processor controls.
