What happens & when: 2 days after installing new icemaker. I recently installed a new ice maker WR30X10093 (Appliance Parts Pros) after approximately 10 years of service from the old one. I took apart and found an open thermistor. Problem discovered. The new ice maker worked for 2 days and then water pouring out of freezer. Shut off water line and noticed that a pin in both the harness and plug was scorched. This is a 25 year old fridge still going strong. Here are my questions.
What caused it? I cannot find a control board in this fridge. Assuming that the short/fault was in the icemaker? There are 4 pins. What is on each pin? Assuming 115V for the heater element (that’s the smoked one), neutral, low voltage for the rest of the icemaker components and one for the valve solenoid. Do I have this correct? Appliance Parts Pros is replacing ice maker assuming its defective. I’ve found a new harness (lucky) on ebay. Just want to ensure that the issue isn’t someplace else so i’ll just recreate the problem. Thanks for any help you can provide

Line / L (Black, Black/Red, or similar)
Provides constant 120 VAC (115–120 V nominal).
Feeds the internal harvest motor and switching contacts inside the module.
Neutral (White)
Returns current for the motor, mold heater, and water valve circuit.
Should remain continuous throughout operation.
Water Valve Output (Often Yellow, Varies by Brand)
Not always yellow on every manufacturer.
During the fill portion of the harvest cycle, the module contacts close and send 120 VAC to the water inlet valve solenoid.
The valve is energized for only a few seconds to refill the mold.
Mold Heater Circuit
Energized during harvest to loosen the ice from the mold.
Draws substantially more current than the timer motor.
A failing heater can overheat contacts and wiring.
If you experienced:
Burned connector
Melted wiring
Charred module terminals
Intermittent operation before complete failure
then common causes include:
Shorted water valve solenoid
Failing mold heater
High-resistance connection
Loose terminal creates heat.
Often causes melted plastic without tripping the breaker.
Arcing module contacts
Common on older mechanical ice makers.
Contacts pit and generate heat over time.
Damaged wiring harness
Water valve coil resistance.
Mold heater resistance.
Continuity through harness connectors.
Signs of heat damage at the module plug.
A true short circuit usually blows a fuse, trips a breaker, or leaves obvious burn damage. A high-resistance connection is actually more common and often causes melted plugs and scorched terminals while the appliance continues operating intermittently for some time.

I replaced the solenoid valve. I replaced the ice cube maker female harness. I found WR23x312 harness new on ebay (APP did not have it in stock) and I replaced the ice cube maker WR30X10093. I had to splice the female harness into the existing wiring as the connector did not match. All connections tight. Water flow restored. I have water at the the water dispenser, however no ice after 24 hours. Now what? I will check for power at the female harness. If no power is there a fuse somewhere that I missed? Thanks for your help!

thank you for the wiring diagram. it’s a huge help. So, i don’t see any fuses so that helps. But, I do see two water valve solenoids for the ice maker. There is a 100ohm one and a 38 ohm one and another at junction 6, 100 ohm? this additional solenoid is not on the graphic to the left? Any idea where that could be hiding?
another question. how accurate are these drawings? I see a purple wire and solenoid (39 ohm CUBE) on the wire diagram coming off the control module, however I do not see it in the relief drawing?
The cube is a solenoid for the cube or crush ice behind the ice bucket.It is not part of the double water valve.
thank you for that clarification. One more question. According to the wiring diagram, brown is line and white is the water call, correct? In the post from APP, it appears that I received a “generic” response in which white is line.
@bigbuck1 thank you for that clarification. I spliced the new harness in. I have 120V at green/white, orange/white and brown/white, however the ice cube maker is not working. Not filling and not rotating despite leaving connected overnight. Fridge is below 0 to make ice. Any ideas? Am I reading the diagram correctly? Brown is neutral? Orange is hot? If so, shouldn’t 120v be at orange/brown, white/brown, green/brown?
