Speed Queen AWN63RSN115TW01 loud shaking

Brand: Speed Queen
Model Number: AWN63RSN115TW01
Main Symptom: Loud shaking
What happens & when: during spin cycle

Error Code (if any): None
Parts or tests already tried: None

The washer shakes loudly when a load goes into the spin cycle. The suspension springs all appear OK and the washer base is level. When the tub is empty and the lid open, the inner drum can be spun smoothly by hand and I don’t hear any bearing noise.

This is the first time I’ve had a problem with a top-loader. I have replaced the main tub bearing and spider on an LG front-loader, but I’m not sure how to troubleshoot this one.

Any help is appreciated!

If you wiggle the spin basket around, does it feel like it is slightly wobbly inside of the tub? If the 6 springs look like they are good, and the basket does not seem wobbly, it is likely that the friction ring has worn down enough to allow the unit to shake more than normal. Here is a link to the friction ring information page just in case. 37937 Sub 40037401 (Sub-Assembly) | Genuine Speed Queen OEM In Stock

Thank you for the tip! I had previously looked under the weldment/bearing assembly to confirm that the friction ring was in place. But, I hadn’t considered that it might be worn. I’ll order a replacement to swap in when I exchange the springs.
