I have a GE Potscrubber 650 dishwasher. It recently began making an intermittent noise that sounds just like the rattling/clanking that a roller coaster makes when it slowly goes up the first big hill! I took the lower front cover off and the sound is coming from the motor (area). The dishwasher works fine but the noise is troubling as it may foretell future trouble.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Need a model # You can remove the bottom kick panel and see if the cooling blade has come loose from the motor. If so, you will need a new motor to fix.
The model number is GSD650X-71BA. It’s about 12 years old.
I took the kick plates off and ran the dishwasher. It sounds like there’s something loose rattling around in either the motor or the drain. Hard to tell which one - I don’t feel any vibration in either one when it’s making the noise. Sounds like metal on metal (i.e. not plastic) which would seem to suggest it’s in the (metal) motor and not the (plastic) drain, but the blades appear to be intact and they turn easily.
As fast as the blades turn, I would expect to hear a heck of a racket if the blades themselves were hitting a loose object, but it really does sound like a roller coaster going up a big hill - more of a clanking noise than something being furiously beaten to death. Guess I’ll have to take the thing apart to find out what’s loose. Thanks for responding, though, I appreciate you taking the time.
