**Model Number:**WF42H5000AW/A2 Main Symptom: loud spin cycle and plastic in filter What happens & when: 8 year old machine. Last month started much louder noise when spinning. Water doesn’t completely drain (sometimes). There are what appear to be plastic “shreds” in the filter. Thank you.

The noise is tough to describe, but best I can: a very high pitched, VERY fast “whump whump whump” or heavy “ticking” sound, almost like a machine gun type of sound (when the machine is spinning at high speed). I would say the plastic looks to be grey in color. I just figured out how to post pics and I’ve attached one of the plastic pieces. Interesting as well: we just cleaned out this filter a few weeks ago (it was VERY full) and now it’s pretty full again (in my opinion).
Aside from the baffles, I can’t think of any other plastic component that would be close to that gray. It is very possible that something accidentally found its way into the washer and in between the tub and the basket. Since there is a heavy ticking noise, I would suggest accessing the hose that runs from the tub to the drain housing and disconnect it from the tub. There is probably a chunk of plastic there causing the noise. This link can be used to view a repair video as a reference for what this will entail.
