Brand: Samsung Model Number: RF28HFEDBSR/AA Main Symptom: Over freezing and blinking temperature What happens & when: The temp blinks for 12 hours, stops for 12 and then starts blinking again and it freezes everything inside the fridge. Freezer is fine
Error Code (if any): No error codes
Parts or tests already tried: Replaced temp sensors and checked resistance to verify they were good and no change to function. I also unplugged and defrosted for 24 hours and no change

JeffW1, if you press and hold the Freezer and the Fridge keys at the same time for 8 seconds, the display should chime and an error code should be displayed for 30 seconds if the controls have registered an error. Does an error code appear or does the display fail to enter into the self-diagnostic error display mode?
It goes into diagnostic mode, and no error message appears. After 30 seconds the temperature just starts flashing again. It also seems like the compressor is running all the time. When I defrosted it and replaced the sensors the defrost drain was frozen solid and I got it cleared and installed a longer clip in the drain
If both temperature displays are flashing, the most likely cause of failure would be the main control as it is not registering any failures. On the model tag, is there an REV number located on it or just to the left of the barcode on the white sticker near the model tag?
This is going to indicate that the main control believes there is a failure with a fresh food section sensor. If the pantry sensor, fresh food sensor, and fresh food evaporator sensor were replaced, a quick resistance check can verify if the issue is with the main control. With the power cord unplugged and the main control accessed, the black probe of a multimeter can be set to the gray wire at the connection CN76 pin 1 and it will stay there for testing. At connection CN30, the connector can be disconnected and the red meter probe would be used to test the yellow wire at pin 9 (for the pantry sensor), the light blue wire at pin 8 (for the fresh food evaporator sensor), and the white wire at pin 6 (for the fresh food cabin sensor). If the refrigerator section is colder than 37 degrees Fahrenheit, there should be a resistance greater than 11,000 Ohms. If the resistances are more than 11,000 Ohms, the main control has failed. Hi William, first I’d like to thank you for the help. These are my results. The temp was definitely below 37 because it froze a bottle of water in 12 hours. Pin 9 50k, pin 8 60k and pin 6 53k. After I plugged it back in the temp for freezer went back to zero but the fridge rose to 80 and stayed there until this morning and slowly went back to 37. I’ll go ahead and order a new board but the question I have is it returnable if it doesn’t fix the problem? Thanks again for the help. Jeff
An installed part would not be returnable. Instead, it would fall under a 1 year part replacement warranty (following links can be used to view this). However, my concern is with the resistance readings found with the thermistors. At a resistance of 50K Ohms, the thermistors would be registering a temperature colder than -20 degrees Fahrenheit. If the freezer and refrigerator sections are getting this cold, that is a sure indicator that the main control is not reading temperature properly.
I went ahead and ordered the new board. I can’t imagine it could be anything else. I should have put in the note this morning but I was in a hurry. I checked the resistance a second time about 30 mins later and they read pin 9 24k, pin 8 20k and pin 6 6k. I’m curious why the temp read 80 on the fridge side all night and then dropped to 37 this morning. If this board doesn’t fix it I’ll have to call an appliance repair.
