No water

Timer went bad in mid cycle, washer stayed in wash cycle for hours. I replaced the timer, which now works fine. However it now appears that little or no water is getting into the machine. Could water pump/motor have burned out when the timer went bad? I can hear water running when the machine calls for it, but when I open the washer, very little water is evident, top rack items bearely wet, liquid detergent not even disolved. Does this sound like a pump/motor problem or a bad water valve?

Remove the bottom panel and check the drain solenoid (on the left side of the pump).
A bad timer could damage a solenoid and if it stuck in the drain position, then water running in and out at the same time.

Should the drain solenoid move freely when power is off?

Yes. It should.

It does not move up or down. Does this confirm that a new solenoid is needed?

No doubt!
