Brand: Whirlpool Model Number: WRS315SDHM05 Main Symptom: No water from dispenser when filter is in. What happens & when: Replaced the water filter housing unit and did not fix the issue. I am finding that when I push on the door of the filter housing unit (which basically is pushing the filter in further), the water dispenser works. Have tried different brands as well as Whirlpool-branded filters and have the same issues.

Thanks for the detailed description. The fact that the dispenser works when you physically push the filter farther into the housing is a very important clue.
Since you’ve already replaced the entire water filter housing and have tried multiple OEM and aftermarket filters with the same result, I don’t believe the new housing itself is the problem.
The most likely causes are:
The filter is not fully engaging the internal valve in the housing. Even though the filter appears locked in place, it may not be traveling quite far enough to open the water valve inside the housing. Since pushing on the housing door makes the dispenser work, this strongly suggests an engagement issue.
Inspect the filter door and latch mechanism. Make sure the filter door is fully closing and latching. A worn or slightly warped door can fail to apply enough pressure to keep the filter fully seated. Compare how firmly the filter is held with and without the door closed.
Inspect the filter receiver closely. Remove the filter and use a flashlight to look inside the housing. Verify there isn’t any debris, a damaged guide, or a misaligned valve stem preventing the filter from seating completely.
Try the bypass plug (if you have it). If the refrigerator dispenses water normally with the bypass installed, it confirms the remainder of the water system is functioning correctly and the issue is isolated to the filter engagement.
Compare filter length. Although you’ve tried multiple filters, compare one side-by-side with an older filter (if available) to ensure the locking tabs and overall length are identical. Occasionally even genuine replacement filters can have slight manufacturing differences.
Because pushing on the housing restores operation, I do not suspect the water inlet valve or the dispenser switch. Those components would not suddenly begin working simply by applying pressure to the filter.
One question that may help narrow it down: Does the filter “click” firmly into place and feel secure, or does it seem like it has a small amount of play after it’s installed? That answer can help determine whether we’re dealing with a latching issue or an internal alignment problem.
