Ordered a new rear tub assembly with bearings. Arrived today. Where the bearing housing is located, there is a loose metal ring, flat but wide, that is bouncing around between the front and rear bearing assembly. I just need to know if this is normal and will line up once the shaft is inserted or if this is broken and i need to order another new tub assembly.
Thank you. I added a photo link so you could see what it looks like not centered and then I used my fingers to center it. Nit sure how to make that stay while trying to install but that will have to be Friday. Thank you for the replay.
Adding to my question. The first tub arrived and the bearing housing was rusted. Not just surface rust but flaking rust. They sent out a new outer tub. This one is better but there is still some rust. Should this be a concern or can I go ahead and replace this thing. I can’t really wait for another replacement to arrive. But will do what you suggest. Thank you.
While I don’t think that the rust on the outer part is an issue, it still surprises me that it is rusted. As long as there is no rust on the mating surface or faces of the bearings I think you’re ok to install
Is there anything I need to do to the shaft before putting this back together? Clean it? Lubrication? And along those lines anything I can be proactive about with the bearing housing to help keep it alive longer than 1-3 years?
You can use some emery cloth or fine grit sand paper to polish the shaft smooth and apply a light coat of white lithium grease before assembly. As far as extending the life of the bearing itself, there’s not a lot you can do since everything is pre assembled and sealed

Again thanks for the replies. I have the new outer tub replaced. All went well, seated clean. Spins quiet. Up until I add the belt and as soon as there is tension on the spider arm it has a grinding sound. When I run a test spin it sounds worse than it originally did. Everything is seated correctly and fully in place. As soon as I remove the belt the tub can be spun with no noise. Put the belt back on and it screams. It is almost like it is too tight and the pressure being pulled on the spider/shaft is too much and it pulls. I have ordered a new belt as a last resort. Not sure if I can upload a video here but I have a short video of the noise it makes. Any other suggestions?
