New gasket doesn't expand to fit

I have a GE French door refrigerator. After replacing the gaskets for the refrigerator, I noticed poor temperature regulation in the refrigerator compartment. Close inspection showed that the new gaskets do not form a good seal with the frame. They are very slightly magnetic but the gasket seems to not want to self-expand enough to touch the frame. If pulled by hand, you can get it to expand but when you let go, it returns to a retracted position.
A piece of card stock can easily be slipped between the frame and the gasket when the door is closed, in some places the gap approaches 1/8".

It almost seems as if there should be something inside the gasket to help it expand. The parts list shows nothing and the old gasket seems very close, but it sealed properly. I have removed the gasket and reinstalled, but it is not a difficult installation and there doesn’t seem to be any way to put in on wrong.

Any suggestions ?

The gasket ordered was a GE WR14X10238.

You can try and lean the fridg back overnight, gasket might seat itself. Either that, or jam the door shut with someting overnight, gasket should pull in.It’s also possable the fridg is leaning forward, just adjust the feet to get it to lean back a bit.
Sometimes just heating the gasket with a hair dryer to get it to pull in evenly.
