On the KitchenAid KUID508HPS00, some reservoir overflow is actually normal operation. These clear-ice machines intentionally flush excess water through the reservoir to purge minerals, and KitchenAid specifically states that reservoir overflow is normal.
However, if yours is filling far longer than it used to, dumping a large amount of water into the bin, or continuing until circulation begins, I would not replace another inlet valve yet.
Start with the drain system
This model uses a drain system that needs to remove the purge/overflow water. A drain problem can make what is normally a controlled overflow look excessive. The parts information for this exact model specifically points toward the drain pump/system when water backs up or overflows.
Do this first:
Remove the ice and pour about 1 gallon of water into the storage bin.
It should drain away readily.
If it drains slowly or remains in the bin, inspect the drain hose for a kink, restriction, or pinch.
If equipped with the factory drain pump, verify that the drain pump actually runs and pumps strongly.
Check the water pan/drain connections for scale or debris.
KitchenAid’s documentation specifically recommends the gallon-of-water drain test and says failure to drain indicates checking the drain tubing for restrictions.
Also check the incoming water pressure
KitchenAid recommends about 50 PSI and notes that pressures above 60 PSI can cause abnormal behavior/noise during filling.
Since you’ve already replaced the inlet valve, an easy diagnostic is to partially close the house supply valve temporarily and run another cycle. Don’t leave it that way as the repair, but if the amount of overflow drops dramatically, measure the actual supply pressure.
One important distinction
Don’t diagnose this like a refrigerator ice maker where the reservoir simply fills to a fixed level and immediately shuts the valve off. The KUID508HPS00 intentionally sends water through the system as part of its rinse/purge operation. KitchenAid says that on initial startup the water pan fills and the machine performs a rinse lasting approximately 5 minutes.
So if you’re seeing some water go over the reservoir during the rinse/fill portion, that’s normal.
If you’re seeing continuous excessive water pouring over the reservoir and into the ice bin, I’d concentrate on:
Drain pump/drain restriction → excessive supply pressure → circulation/water-level sensing circuit → control, in that order.
There is also a particularly relevant field report involving this exact KUID508HPS00 with essentially the same symptom. The owner had already replaced the inlet valve, circulation pump, and control without fixing it; the eventual problem found was that the drain pump wasn’t operating correctly. That’s anecdotal rather than manufacturer documentation, but it makes the drain test especially worthwhile here.
If the gallon drain test passes, I would next run the machine’s service diagnostics and check the fill/circulation/drain-pump steps individually before replacing anything else.
