My Kenmore series 700 electric dryer will not start. I have taken the dryer apart and tested the continuity of several switches, but they all check out. The model number for the Kenmore dryer is 110.68722700

Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.68722700
Main Symptom: will not start
What happens & when: push the start button and nothing happens

Error Code (if any): NA
Parts or tests already tried: tested multiple switches with a multimeter

For Kenmore dryer model 110.68722700 — will not start, use this test sequence.

Safety: Unplug the dryer for all continuity/resistance tests. The incoming-power test requires live 240 VAC, so use extreme caution. If you’re not comfortable measuring live voltage, have a qualified technician perform that test.

1. Incoming power — check this first

Set the multimeter to AC volts, at least a 250V range. With the dryer plugged in, carefully measure at the terminal block:

  • L1 to L2: approximately 240 VAC
  • L1 to Neutral: approximately 120 VAC
  • L2 to Neutral: approximately 120 VAC

If you don’t have all three readings, check the double-pole breaker, outlet, power cord, and terminal-block connections before troubleshooting dryer components.

2. Thermal fuse — ( Whirlpool WP3392519 Dryer Thermal Fuse | Genuine OEM Part )

Unplug the dryer. Disconnect at least one wire from the thermal fuse and measure across its two terminals.

  • Good: continuity / approximately 0–1 Ω
  • Bad: OL / no continuity

If open, replace the fuse and inspect the exhaust vent and airflow restriction that may have caused it to blow.

3. Door switch — ) Whirlpool WP3406107 Dryer Door Switch | Genuine OEM Part )

Disconnect the switch wiring and test the motor/run contacts.

  • Switch button depressed (door closed): continuity / approximately 0–1 Ω
  • Switch button released (door open): OL

If it remains open with the button depressed, the door switch is defective.

4. Belt safety switch — ( Whirlpool 279782 Dryer Belt Switch Kit | Genuine OEM Part )

Disconnect at least one switch wire.

  • Idler/belt mechanism in the normal operating position: switch should have continuity
  • Move the mechanism to simulate a broken/missing belt: switch should go OL/open

Also verify that the belt and idler are actually moving the switch into its run position.

5. Push-to-start switch ( Whirlpool WP3977456 Dryer Push To Start Switch | Genuine OEM Part )

If all the above tests pass, test the push-to-start switch.

  • Button released: OL/open
  • Button pressed: continuity / approximately 0–1 Ω

If everything above passes

Then I’d troubleshoot in this order:

Incoming 240V good → thermal fuse good → door switch good → belt switch good → start switch good → timer contacts/wiring → drive motor and motor overload.

At that point, the most useful test is checking whether the motor is actually receiving voltage when the Start button is pressed. That separates a timer/control/wiring problem from a bad motor without guessing and replacing parts.
