Motor shaft play

The impeller attached to the motor FONT=Arial is now rubbing on the steel cover in the front lower lefthand corner of the dryer. The motor seems to be ok, but the shaft has about 1/4 inch of play from front to back. Would the motor have to be replaced?

I’m afraid I did not get you right. When you said “impeller”, which part did you mean:

The motor pulley

or

The blower wheel

?

If we are talking about the motor pulley, it has a screw which could be tighten.

If we are talking about the blower wheel - it also has a screw which could be tighten and if it would not help then it has to be replaced.

The motor shaft should not play and if it does - the motor has to be replaced.

Here are the break down diagrams for the GE dryer Model DPSF495GV0WW
