Microwave Handle
Gmelkin,

No need to get frustrated, we’ll sort this out real quick.

#2 clips onto the door frame. Using a table knife or something similar (nothing sharp) remove #2. This will expose a couple of #8 screws that hold the handle. Remove the screws. Put the new handle on and secure with screws. Put #2 back on. You should be good to go.

Let us know how it turns out…
Like the subject said - broke into 5 pieces :eek: Used butter knife - panel bends, cracks and breaks

Looked at all the service manual postings - none match my unit. Now I have a still broken handle AND a destroyed inner trim panel. All the inner side pieces that go into the door sheered off by the tabs. Finally got all the pieces out. There are NO SCREWS for the handle or ANY screws holding in the inner panel/glass assy to get to the handle screws.

Looks like $100 in parts, $200 door (can’t get access to the hinge screws - No torx visible) A service call for much more then parts or replace unit.

I am just so pleased - I should have just ignored the loose handle

I understand your feelings, but…what is the complete model number of your microwave?

Model number as listed on tag.: MH1150xms-4. I’m just going to pay for the service call -instead of breaking more parts.

Have you read the reply posted by TONY7666 from the previous page? He worked with the model very similar with yours and did not have nay problems.

Hello there,
I have gone through this forum to learn about replacing frigidaire microwave handle and have seen pictures too.

I have managed to complete step #1 which is removing plastic type stuff around the edges of door (thanks to the great video). After that, I saw 2 screws and removed them too. After that I am kind of stuck as I don’t know what to do next and can’t see the screws holding the handle itself.

Please help me as this my 1st DIY stuff.

Thanks.

It is Frigidaire FFMB162LSA.

The model number you posted does not come up. Was it sold in US? Verify the model number.

Great video to get to handle screws on most models, thanks. Ordered today and will be ready to try this once part arrives. My Kitchen Aid model # KHMS155LSS4.

However, I’ve read some members still not seeing the handle screws or bottom screw after removing plastic trim #2. I found a vid that goes a step further possibly for those ‘other’ models.

Here: Over The Range Microwave Oven Door Repair Help - YouTube!

Hope that helps some
Like the subject said - broke into 5 pieces :eek: Used butter knife - panel bends, cracks and breaks
Yes mine too no matter how careful I was and I’m not a DIY newbie with fixing things. Trim piece on order now

Vid I posted in above post is exactly what pertains to my model (KHMS155LSS4) after trim piece #2 is removed showing no handle screws. One thing the vid doesn’t show that was the only way I got mine apart, was to bend the metal away at each plastic hook for much easier removal like in vid. Don’t forget to bend the metal back to original shape once done with installing new handle and sandwiching the two door components back together. That will allow trim piece to snap back in place correctly.

Why oh why didn’t they give us a ‘real’ stainless steel handle in the first place. Certainly paid a pretty penny for the stainless steel model…what cheap-o’s.

I have a Whirlpool Model MH1150XMS3 and broke the inner plastic bit that I was removing with the butter knife. Do I have to replace the entire door to fix my mistake? I really hope not and am regretting not using a professional instead of thinking that I can do this for myself.

By the way, when I finally got it off I couldn’t find the screws that I needed to replace the broken door handle.

Hello,

Did you mean the inner frame (#2 at the diagram)? If this is correct then you can replace it.

Gene.
P.S. Go back to page 8 and check out the reply posted by TONY7666.

No pictures displayed here. What happened to the images?

Thank you so much for the help, after watching the video you showed and taking my time to do as you showed and not getting frustrated, the microwave frame came out in a cinch, I removed the lower screw and am ordering the new handle today. It is very easy to replace. It should take about 5 minutes once new handle arrives, if that long. Thank you, y’all are great.

I’m waiting for handle to arrive and then I could do video of installing it, but not sure how to upload video. Getting to the bottom screw looks harder than it is, I have already removed old piece of handle from the bottom and it will really only take a couple of minutes to install new handle. When I started looking into this, there were comments that the whole door would have to be replace, or may just have to buy new microwave. I’m so happy it was so easy, the hardest part is waiting for the new handle and limiting the use of the microwave with the “top screw only” holding the handle on, have to be gentle opening door.
