Sounds like the clutch W10721967 may be wearing out, I’d check the teeth and splines on that for wear.

Thanks for responding. I already replaced the clutch assembly but the sound is still there. I also ran the diagnostic checks on the washer and no error codes were cited. My next move is to replace the agitator. If that doesn’t fix it, then I’m not sure what to do. The washer is only 4 years old, so hate to replace it. Could it be the gear box going bad? I wouldn’t think so, but if it is, would you know if Maytag’s warranty would cover its replacement?

I’d look at the splines in the agitator W11550891 to see if they are worn or stripped, if those look good then the next suspect is the gearcase W11449840.
