What kind of noise? Like a bearing or jet engine sound?

The washer tub is banging against the sides of the washer during the spin cycle, even after the unbalanced load has been corrected.

There were not any noises during the agitation cycle.

The springs are in good condition and connected. There are only three springs on this model of washer and you cannot try bouncing the tub to check the springs, as recommended on the newer ones. Question: Should I try to find springs and change them even though they look ok?

The tub can be moved around by grabbing the top of the agitator without a major amount of effort. Could this be a sign of weak springs or is there possibly something else.

We have not replaced the damper pads, and don’t notice any noise when I move the tub around by holding on to the agitator. What are your thoughts on this?

I replaced a tub bearing with a repair kit (Part 6-2040130) and a mounting stem and boot kit (Part 6-2095720) in 2019. Do you think these would need replacing again after 6 years?

Are there any other things that should be considered for this problem?

We love this old Maytag Washer and have been told by both a repairman and parts suppliers to ‘never get rid of this machine as long as you can get parts’ !! Thus, my tenacity toward getting this fixed right.

Will greatly appreciate any help you can give me in this matter.

Those springs would be my first suspect from the description.

Rory, I cannot find the three springs that are needed to hold my tub in place on my old Maytag LA312 washer. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi all,

Those springs where so thick, I doubt much would happen to them. More often than not the damper pads wear. That can be replaced and then the springs can also be tightened up a bit is needed. Those 3 springs are NLA now :frowning:
