This is my first post so my apologies if I don’t get it quite right. I have a Maytag refrigerator exactly as shown in the Appliance Parta video I linked to. The issue is the Ice Bin does not seat properly, it stays about 1/4" too high and so the auger / splines never engage. The ice bin just flops around and will not mount. I cannot for the life of me see why it does not seat. Google AI indicated the auger shaft has a 1/4" spring action but clearly that is not so based on the video. The spline teeth on the ice bin are fine, as is the auger drive shaft, both appear fine, not stripped. Any help or insights are greatly appreciated.

So the new ice bin is the one that is not seating correctly. What is the part number for that ice bin?

Hello thanks for the reply. To clarify, it is not a new ice bucket. It’s the existing ice bucket. This is a new-to-me unit and since posting this morning I have solved the issue.

Watching the videos on this site I decided to pull out the drive shaft that goes from the motor to the auger. I discovered that the nylon bushing that’s on the shaft and that seats it had somehow shimmied itself down about 1/8"-1/4". I could see on the drive shaft where it used to be, so I was able to move it back into place and now the ice bucket seats properly.

Along the way I discovered that the drive shaft where it engages the auger spline, was worn out, so I am guessing that as the icemaker had to work harder as the shaft wore out, somehow the nylon bushing moved itself over time. Anyway I have ordered a replacement drive shaft (which has the attached nylon bushing) and washer which goes around the bushing and holds it in place.

So, problem solved – the drive shaft somehow had worked itself up through the bushing which made the shaft a little higher than it should be, preventing the ice bin from seating. I hope all this makes sense.
