Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MVWX700XW1
Main Symptom: not spinning or agitating
What happens & when: water comes and fills tub but no spin/agitate feature to drain water. Found oily residue on bottom of washer near what appears to be motor.
Error Code (if any): F7 E5 and F7 E6
Parts or tests already tried: none as I am trying to determine if this is a clutch kit problem or shifter problem or gearcase or capacitator problem given the black oily residue I found when I looked under the washer.

It would be recommended to put the unit into service diagnostics and see if there are any stored error codes. This will guide you to what may be wrong.
Could you please provide further direction on which subcategory to choose from when in diagnostic test mode? I put it in service diagnostic test mode. It appears there are several accessible Diagnostic Test Modes ranging from list below. Keep in mind the codes I received were F7 E5 and F7 E6 which according to manual could be shifter fault or motor fault. Based on oily residue found in motor do you have a more reliable opinion on which one it could be so I may source correct part? Or would it be best to assume both motor and shifter need replacing based on codes shown and oily residue found on motor. Thank you.

Ok with the error codes that you are getting, the shifter would be the most likely over the motor.
