For your Maytag MVW7232HW0, the Clean Washer with affresh cycle should definitely fill with water. In fact, Maytag specifies that this cycle uses a higher water level than normal wash cycles so it can clean above the normal water line.
If the washer runs normally on regular cycles but never adds water during Clean Washer, I would not immediately suspect the inlet valves. This points more toward the control not progressing through the Clean Washer sequence correctly.
First, make sure you’re starting it this way
- Completely empty the basket.
- Put one affresh tablet directly in the bottom of the basket, not in the dispenser.
- Close the lid.
- Select Clean Washer with affresh.
- Press and hold Start/Pause until the cycle starts.
- Give it several minutes and listen carefully.
The washer may perform sensing/movement before filling, so it doesn’t necessarily begin dumping water in immediately. But it should eventually fill to a relatively high level.
Quick diagnostic test
Since you apparently have water on normal cycles, try this:
Run Rinse & Spin and verify that water enters normally.
Then run Clean Washer again and listen at the beginning.
If you hear the inlet valve humming but get no water, check the inlet screens and water supply. If you don’t hear either valve being energized at all, we’re probably dealing with a control/programming issue rather than a plugged valve.
Also try a hard reset before going deeper:
Unplug the washer for 5 minutes → reconnect it → wait about 30 seconds → start Clean Washer again.
One interesting point: Maytag says running Clean Washer also recalibrates the control and resets the factory-set water levels, so a Clean Washer cycle that won’t fill isn’t normal operation.
If it still won’t fill
The next thing I’d do is put the MVW7232HW0 into Service Diagnostics and check the stored fault codes, then use the component tests to command the hot and cold inlet valves independently.
That will tell us very quickly whether we’re chasing an inlet valve/wiring problem or the main control.
