It sounds as though your original issue may have been caused by a buildup of lint in the lint filter housing. When you tried to clean it with a pipe cleaner, you may have dislodged one of the filter guides or the flapper door.

To access and remove the lint filter housing:

  1. Unplug the dryer.

  2. Remove the back panel of the control console.

  3. Depending on the model, you may also need to detach the control panel fascia from the top. To do this, slide a putty knife under the front edge of the panel on both sides to release the spring clips.

  4. Remove the screws that secure the back of the cabinet top to the frame.

  5. Slide the top forward slightly to disengage it from the retaining clips at the front.

  6. Remove the two screws at the top of each side of the door frame and the two screws located below the lint filter opening.

  7. Tilt the front panel outward. Note how the door switch is connected, then disconnect it.

  8. Lift and tilt the panel outward to remove it from the cabinet. You may need to rock it gently from side to side to disengage it.

With the lint screen removed:

  1. Remove the two screws at the top of the lint filter housing.

  2. Depending on the model, there may be a third screw near the blower housing that must also be removed.

  3. Remove, clean, and inspect the lint filter housing.

  4. If any components are broken or damaged, the housing ( WPW10128606 Dryer Lint Duct Assembly | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock } will need to be replaced.

Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly. Be sure the front panel engages the bottom retaining clips on both sides before installing any screws.

I can remove the whole lint housing assemby by juat undoing three screws and pulling out. That is what you see here… Housing for foltet and trap door are out… Why do I have remove panels??? I am just trying to figure out what thie gray piece is in original post and where it should actually be. Is it lint duct clip? How to remove?

Are you talking about the 1.5 inch wide metal tab that you can see down inside the opening? If so it is bent out to far it is a guide for the filter, it may have hung on the tool u used to clean it and got bent out too far. You can try to bend it back down enough to allow the filter ot inset without removing any panels

Yes! What is that tab supposed to look like when in its proper place?? I can’t find photos anywhere? It is clearly what is in the way of the lint trap.

IT is bent in such a way to help keep the lint screen in position against the inside of the lint filter housing so that as air is sucked our of the drum by the fan all of it passes through the lint screen and doesn’t bypass it

Actually that may not be the issue no that i think about your unit. In the tracks where the lint filter edges slide in is there any build up packed into those guides?

I cleaned the guides. The filter is definitely stuck on the gray thing. Here you see even without guides — bottom hits the gray metal and it won’t go further

No guides to get stuck… But filter frame hits that metal clip and can go jo further

At this point I would either try to bend that piece back down or remove it and try to fix or replace it. ( WPW10128606 Dryer Lint Duct Assembly | Genuine Whirlpool OEM In Stock )
