Maytag dryer LDE8506ACE won't stay running

We have a Maytag LDE8506ACE that recently started working intermittently

  • after an electrical storm that whacked the garage door opener, TV and a few other items.

Now, the dryer stops running after just a few minutes in dry cycle. Sometimes it runs for 15 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes.

Confirmed that I have 220 volts to back of block. And, I have already replaced the thermal fuse. Still, the unit runs for a few minutes then stops.

Also noticed that reducing the dryer load will sometimes allow the dryer to run a full timed cycle - not sure if this is a coincidence …

After several hours - the dryer resets and can then be turned on - usually to run for 10 - 20 minutes before shutting off…

After a running a load the dryer most of the time will not start, instead we get the buzzer sound as if the dryer is in cool down ‘alert mode’.

Probably a bad motor, AP4290649. You can pull the motor and bench test it per the schematic, just use a cheater cord.

Thanks for your quick reply…

decided to opt-in to a new dryer

Experiencing same issue.Did a continuity test on thermostat ant thermal fuse both passed. Motor makes noise sometimes w/o drum belt connected to pulley. Sometimes have to turn motor pulley to get it to start. Sounds like the motor has bitten the dust. Agree folks?
