My washing machine (MTW5840TW0) started randomly making a loud grinding noise during the spin cycle and isn’t spinning, it almost sounds like something is spinning underneath and grinding but nothing is actually spinning. When I spun it manually, I also heard a weird kind of grinding noise.
I took it apart and got the motor and the clutch off, but now I’m trying to figure out whether it’s a clutch problem or a bearing or transmission issue.
I’m able to spin the clutch just fine and I can see the motor turning and don’t hear any noises, not sure if it’s too worn down or if there’s an issue with that.
Is there anyway to determine what the root cause is?
I included a picture of what it looks like from the bottom with the motor and clutch removed and then a picture of the clutch.
Checked motor coupler looks fine
Also tested running it while the motor and transmission weren’t attached and recorded a video (https://imgur.com/a/RoL4zYz). The clutch is spinning and the middle axle thing is spinning but they’re not in sync and clutch is spinning faster (not sure what is considered normal for that)
But I have the whole thing apart still, so I can check anything. Thanks in advance.
