LG WT7060CV washer. After replace clutch housing and clutch motor rotor binds clutch cam when installed

What happens & when: i replaced the clutch housing assembly and the clutch motor. Verified it was seated correctly and all bolts reinstalled correctly. When I reinstal the rotor, it binds the clutch cam once it is tightened. If i back the nut off it works fine, but then throws a UE code (obviously because the rotor isn’t seated properly).

Parts or tests already tried: I have installed a new clutch housing assembly and clutch motor. I have taken the assembly off and repeated it just in case it wasn’t seated properly.

If the rotor turns freely until the rotor bolt is fully tightened, then immediately binds the clutch cam, that points to a mechanical alignment or spacing issue, not a bad clutch motor.

Here are the most likely causes, in order:

1. Rotor not fully seated on the splined shaft (Most Likely)

Remove the rotor and inspect:

  • The splines on both the rotor and transmission shaft for damage or burrs.
  • Make sure nothing is trapped between the rotor and clutch housing (washer, debris, wiring, etc.).
  • The rotor should slide completely onto the shaft before the bolt begins pulling it in.

If the bolt is having to “pull” the rotor onto the shaft, something isn’t seated correctly.


2. Incorrect or defective clutch housing assembly

There are several very similar LG clutch assemblies that look nearly identical but have different offsets.

Verify the part number you installed matches your model WT7060CV exactly.

Even an aftermarket clutch that is dimensionally off by 1–2 mm can cause the rotor to clamp the clutch cam.


3. Clutch cam not fully installed

With the rotor removed:

  • Rotate the clutch cam by hand.
  • It should move smoothly with only normal gear resistance.
  • Make sure it is fully seated on the transmission shaft and not cocked.

4. Missing or misplaced thrust washer/spacer

Many LG direct-drive washers use a thrust washer or spacer on the transmission shaft.

If:

  • a washer was left off,
  • installed upside down,
  • or stuck to the old clutch,

the rotor will clamp the clutch too tightly when the bolt is torqued.

Compare the current shaft stack-up to the parts diagram.


5. Rotor magnets rubbing the stator

Before tightening:

  • Install the rotor.
  • Spin it by hand.

If it turns freely until the bolt is tightened, then becomes difficult immediately, the rotor is being pulled inward farther than it should.

That almost always indicates a spacing problem.


6. Bent rotor

Lay the rotor face-down on a flat surface.

A slightly warped rotor can appear normal until it is clamped tight.


I’d also inspect the transmission shaft

With everything removed:

  • Rotate the transmission shaft by hand.
  • It should rotate smoothly.
  • Check for up-and-down play.
  • Check whether the shaft protrudes the same amount as before the repair.

A bent shaft or damaged bearing can also cause the rotor to bind once tightened.


A few questions that will narrow it down quickly:

  1. What is the part number of the clutch housing assembly you installed?
  2. Is it OEM LG or aftermarket?
  3. When the rotor is fully tightened, does it bind immediately, or does it make one revolution and then hit a tight spot?
  4. Can you rotate the clutch housing freely by hand with the rotor removed?

Those answers will usually identify whether you’re dealing with an incorrect clutch assembly, a missing spacer, or a transmission/shaft issue.

Lg AEN 74532600 washer clutch coupling housing assembly. It said it was OEM replacement. Once the nut is tightened, it binds immediately. The clutch assembly rotates freely when the rotor is not tightened.

So I reviewed the part in previously ordered, and that IS the same part number (apparently I copied the wrong number in my response). I used a caliper to measure it compared to the old one and it may be slightly off. I have ordered a new one from the link you sent. If that does not work, what else could cause the problem? I want to try and eliminate any issues at one time. I appreciate your help. At this point, I could have just purchased a new one.
