Brand: LG Model Number: WT1701CV Main Symptom: Door Error What happens & when: Washer doesn’t work when door is closed, but will work when door is opened
Error Code (if any): dE
Parts or tests already tried: Looked at interlock switch and all seems fine there. It does go into the locked status, but only when the door is open.
With the door closed the error is presented and opening the door it engages the lock mechanism and the cycle starts.
Tried unplugging for 5 minutes. Tried unplugging and plugging back in after 15 seconds while holding the power button.
It sounds like this is a control board failure. With the power cord unplugged, the console can be removed to access the main control for testing purposes. There will be two screws, one under each of the rubber plugs at each side of the console. Once they are removed, the console should lift up. The main control should have a 6 port connector with a white wire at pin 4 and a white wire at pin 5 (see attached image). With the wire connection disconnected from the main control, the two white wires can be used to test the lid switch for continuity using a meter. It should have continuity when the lid is closed, and no continuity when the lid is open. If the switch tests good, the main control is not reding the lid status properly and would likely be the primary cause of failure. Thanks, William. As I was looking for more information on this, it appeared to me that it is likely the board that needs replaced. Thank you for the follow-up and information pertaining to the repair.
I understand updates occurring and changes to boards can be made, but this is missing a plug-in at one end and one of the connections is a different style plug-in, alongside the board, where the shape of the connector is completely different and it’s a different color. Is my machine too old and it needs an older board?
It looks like the original control is part number EBR79505204 which is an older control and it would be the one you would want to use in this appliance. Do not install the control EBR80321804 so that it can be returned.
Well, wouldn’t you know it. Same result. I hadn’t done that switch test and now I wish I had done that before ordering the control board(s). Sorry I jumped to the conclusion that it must be the control board.
With the lid open, it does test with continuity.
I’ll order the door lock switch and hope that does the trick.
My door lock switch has a couple of wires coming from the backside up to the front to another part, maybe a reed switch(?). But the diagram for the door lock switch and the for the parts in the area, do not show this. Is this a concern at all? Maybe this is different like the control board was different?
Found out what the string does. I suspect if the lid should get stuck in a locked position, raise the top and pull the string to retract the locking mechanism.
