Brand:LG Model Number:LMXS30776S/03 Main Symptom:Water Dispenser inop What happens & when:
Can get water dispenser to work if I place a magnet on the fridge to sim door closed and left door wide open. However, as I close the door with mag in place, about 1/2 way closed I hear the main water valve in the rear click closed. The ice maker that uses same line/valve in same door works fine. Is there some sort of a position sensor in the door that is sensing the door closing and kills power to the main water valve for just the water dispenser? Tested the main water valve, and the water meter and valve test within ohm parameters.
There is a reed switch (magnetic-activated switch) that monitors the position of the door so it does not operate when open. The switch has probably failed. EBF61314813 Switch,Magnet | Genuine Lg OEM In Stock There is a magnet that should match up to the switch. The switch is at the top hinge area on the cabinet, and the magnet is on the door; they should meet when the door is closed. The magnet operates the switch.
I can place a magnet on that switch to bypass/act as if door closed. It works fine, lights go out and I can get the dispenser to work with door wide open. However, as I close the door with mag in place, the main water line shuts off (can hear it close) while the in-door valve stays open (I can hear it buzzing) at about the 45deg position. Ive wiggled the wires from the top hinge too, in case there is a broken wire to see if I can get it to switch on-off with the dispenser button pressed, but it has no impact…only the door position. So I think Ive ruled out the switch (operates as intended and can get it to work with magnet), the main/pilot valve (tested with ohm meter, and seems to work fine as long as door is open and position switch has magnet on it, and the ice and water dispenser valve…ice works fine, and the water dispenser valve opens just fine with door closed (or open and mag in place). Something just seems to de-energize the pilot valve with door closed (is energized with door open, dispenser button pressed, and door position sensor with magnet on it) for only the dispenser…it opens fine for the ice machine on that same valve an in the same door.
