Our Kitchenaid KUDM01TJBS0 that has worked fine for 6+ years, but now none of the lights on the push button keypad display light up, and it simply does nothing. I reset the house circuit breaker, but no change with the dishwasher.
I’ve read that a ribbon cable is sometimes the culprit, and will take a look at that. I have looked at a few parts diagrams showing the control board and key pad, but I didn’t see a ribbon cable. I presume it’ll be obvious when I open it up. Anything I should look for or test?
I also noticed the hinger area of the door is rather loose and sloppy. Is there are way to snug this up?
Last night I opened up the door, cleaned all connections and re-seated all the cables, and tested the relay switch on the handle. There is a white “plug” component (see attached image) marked “MOTORTEMP”, that I presume is the thermal fuse. With nothing connected to it, there is no continuity between the two terminals. Does this indicate the unit is defective? If so, do I need to replace just this, or would another component cause it to fail that also needs to be replaced? Any advice on this would be appreciated.
Take a look at Item 6 in the “Control panel” section.
This is a thermal fuse and it is not uncommon for it to blow.
Note that it is modified and comes as a kit.
Thanks for taking time to reply to my inquiry. The kit description says the wiring harness must also be replaced. The wiring harness on my diswasher appears to be just a bundle of wires, two of which have push on clips for the two terminals on the thermal fuse. Is it OK to just replace just the fuse, or do I need to attach the wires to my wiring harness? The wires in the kit photo look as if they may be designed to attach to a terminal block. I’m not sure if I need them, or how to attach them to the wiring harness.

It is always recommended to use the kit.
I believe it you have to cut and attach it to the existing wires

I had a problem with this dishwasher back in '09, and had to replace a fuse assembly connected to the control panel.
Today the dishwasher won’t run. There is a small LED light next to the Cancel/Drain button that blinks on and off. However, I can’t get any of the other buttons to illuminate or do anything. I have cycled the power off and on at the mains fusebox, hoping to reset the dishwasher’s control panel, but no such luck. As the dishwasher’s LED is lighting up, I presume the unit is getting power. Should I replace this fuse again, or could it be a failure at the control panel? Is there a way to test the fuse with a meter?
I read a post that suggested pressing the HiTemp Scrub and Energy Saver Dry buttons in sequence a few times may reset the controller board. Either I’m not doing it correctly or it isn’t resetting the controller board.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I’m somewhat electro-mechanically challenged, but my wife thought I was a total genius when I replaced the fuse last time. It would be great to relive the fleeting moment of grandeur with a simple fix!

Did you give it a couple minutes with the power off?
Removing power from the unit is the best way to reset the board.

No as a blown fuse would kill power to the control board and it is getting power.
Yes it could be a bad control board, Try running the diagnostics, see the tech sheet.

Yes. Remove either one side or both sides and measure it with a meter, should be 0 ohms.

Could be that the cancel/drain button is shorted, check it with a meter. KUDM01T.pdf (225.7 KB)
I will disconnect power for a longer period to see if that will reset the controller board. If the fuse checks out, I’m guessing the problem may be a stuck key. In my case, the LED next to the CANCEL/DRAIN key is flashing.
Per the diagnostics sheet:
STUCK KEY: If the control detects that a key is stuck in the depressed position,
dishwasher operation will be suspended and the control will flash the
light for that key until the condition is corrected. If a key without a light is
stuck or multiple keys are stuck, the control will flash the light for the Rinse
Only/Quick Rinse key.
I disconnected power for over an hour, but the CANCEL/DRAIN button resumed blinking once power was turned back on. As the diagnostic sheet says a blinking light suggests a stuck key, ordering a replacement Console Assembly seems like the thing to do. If that part doesn’t fix it, can it be returned in exchange for a new control board?
