As our undercounter dishwasher starts it makes quite a racket.
After it has run for a while (it is washing now and has quieted down) all sounds ok and it gets through a complete cycle ok.
I have read about other people’s problems and wonder where to start looking for the source of our noise.
I held my hand on the pump unit from under and it would quiet. The Vibration seems like and sounds like a cavatating pump, bad bearing or motor. After a while it get quiet like it should.
Now it is humming and discharging. Sounds ok. Quiet, off and on
Drying now and all is good.
I wonder about what and when (cycles) are exactly going on.
I am an Automation technician (ET) for the USPS and pride myself at being a fixit and with a bit of direction I know we can make my wife happy.
Any leads?

Just might be something in the pump hitting the chopper blade onn the wash impellar Need a complete number off the machine for further help
Kenmore Ultra wash Dishwasher 665.16369301 Serial # 16369301
Something hitting well could be.

You need to remove the lower spray arm Then the internal feed tube cap keep pressure on the feed tube and the white cap will flex off as you twist it out of the locking jaws, then remove the #15 torx screws from the accumulator, Now you are inside the sump remove the inlet protector There will be 1 or 2 more torx screws there’s your chopper blade try not to disturb that they are tricky getting back in but clean the screen with a shop vac if there is anything in it it will be there clean everything and put back together in reverse order If there was nothing there you will need a new motor and chopper assy
The shaft to blade is broken.
Looking at the parts manual it is not clear is this Chopper assembly part connected through the impeller Kit?
Or as you replied a new motor is in order?
We are tempted to clean everything leave the blade out and run chopperless.

The chopper has a coupler like that mates with the same on motor turn the water to machine off and run it with out give it time to go through fill cycle maybe 2-3 minutes that will tell you motor is good or not if it runs get a new chopper the impellar is on the motor inspect it for worn edges it may have got trashed
I just finished breakfast I see what you are talking about. Chopper comes complete and all comes apart from this end I take it.
Any tricks getting the new one back in place?
I now have the cutter washer screen washer spring and coupler.
Nothing but the broken cutter coupler shaft seem the worse for ware. The failure mode… This fiberous material clogging the screen. Some plastic could be an ear swab some cat hair all told who knows?
Now to fixing not well…
There is a right angle on each side of the stainless screen that goes down and rests in the groove kinda line up the coupler so they mate when you are installing it Dont force anything when done right it just flops in place
Big help
Will get bask after part comes and all is fixed
You have been a big help
Thank You

Thanks for getting me in and out of my wife’s dishwashers. I know as a volunteer only thanks is what I can offer you. As a veteran on Veterans day I know I made the right choice over thirty five years ago volunteering to serve knowing I had to go out but no promises were made about coming back.
Good on you today and in the future.
