Kitchenaid Stand Mixer Worm Gear Follower Repair

I am trying to fix the worm gear follower on my kitchenaid stand mixer.

Model: kp26m1xmr (purchased in ~2010).

I bought the W11086780 part but it does not fit onto the shaft and gets stuck about halfway through (around where the pin is supposed to go). I cannot mallet the gear into place either, is this the correct part number? Since the model I am trying to fix is very old is there a different replacement part I should use?

The worm gear follower would be correct. As this part is supposed to be snugly fitted to the planetary shaft, any debris or burs can stop it from seating. Does the planetary shaft look like it might have any burs or debris? If the planetary shaft is thoroughly cleaned and then a very light coating of grease applied to it, does the worm gear follower seat in place?

I cleaned the shaft and do not see any excess debris or obvious burrs. Adding grease does not help the gear go into place, it gets stuck as if the shaft is too large and doesn’t fit the gear.

The planetary shaft should not have any bevel to it that would cause it to widen out at the base. Does the worm gear follower appear to have any bumps or burs on the inner port that might be catching on the groove of the drive shaft just above the pin hole?

I don’t see any issues with the gear itself, I tried 2 OEM replacement gears and both get stuck on the same part of the shaft

Does the original worm gear follower stick in the same location if you try to re-install it?

The original gear does not work either, I have the same issue with it. When I was taking the gear out I had to mallet the shaft to loosen the gear enough to take it off.

If you take a ruler or other straight edge and place it against the shaft, is there any spot near where the gears are sticking that starts to gap? This is checking to see if the shaft has a slight bend in it.

I notice the shaft above the pin (top half of the shaft) is slightly thinner, there is a slight gap when I hold a ruler along the shaft there.
