I am trying to understand how the screws that need to be installed with the replacement door gasket 8201809 work. Directions indicate that drilling the pilot holes in the inner liner approx. 1/2" from the edge and then installing and tightening the screws will create a compression force between the inner liner and the stainless steel door edge that locks the gasket foot in place, thus replacing the heat seal the factory used. I am trying to understand how these screws create movement in the inner liner that sandwiches the gasket foot between the liner and the stainless steel. The screw only goes into the inner liner, so how does it make the inner liner move toward the stainless to compress the new gasket foot? Is it simply the screw being tightened into a pilot hole that is smaller than the screw diameter and thus pushes against the pilot hole, causing the inner liner to slightly expand toward the stainless steel? Any insight into how this is supposed to work would be very much appreciated. I have exhausted Chat GPT. While it has been helpful, it still leaves some unanswered questions.

When the pilot holes are drilled, the pilot hole should be set in the plastic liner as well as the sheet metal panel of the outer door just behind the liner. This allows the screw to draw them together once the gasket is in place.
