KitchenAid, KRMF706EBS01, fridge not cooling properly but freezer works; ice buildup in back of fridge

Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KRMF706EBS01
Main Symptom: Fridge not cooling but freezer does; ice buildup in back of fridge
What happens & when: The freezer gets down to ~8F, but the fridge varies between 45-60F. The bottom refrigerator drawers of this 5 drawer unit get between 32-37.

Updates:

  1. Evaporator fan: When I put it in diagnostic mode, I couldn’t hear the evaporator fan in the refrigerator compartment turn on. However, I could hear the evaporator fan in the freezer turn on. After I disassembled the fridge, I tested the evaporator fan with a multimeter for both continuity and resistance and couldn’t get either.
  2. Damper control assembly: Appeared rusted with rust dust throughout the casing. The flapper wouldn’t move beyond a small amount. I tested it with a multimeter but don’t think I got any readings. I thought for sure it was seized.
  3. I’m assuming that the thin metal wire that is attached to the evaporator coil is a temperature probe that measures the temperature of the evaporator coil. The plastic tape and insulation appears melted. Is it a problem?

I reconnected the left fridge door with its wiring as well as both the evaporator fan and the damper control assembly to their wiring harnesses. I then plugged in the fridge and was careful to not touch anything to not get shocked. As the fridge started up, I noticed the damper control assembly working! I then put it in diagnostic mode and tested both the evaporator fan and the damper control assembly. The fan was not spinning but the damper control assembly was operating.
Note: After doing a little research, I read someone’s post on a different site that the wiring harness in the deli/pantry drawer is a common fail point and can cause the damper to stop working. I suppose this is possible why there was a lot of ice buildup. I plan to leave the harness to the drawer unplugged.

Check for a damper that is faulty as it would be the most likely cause for the refrigerator not cooling and for the ice that is in the pantry drawer.

Thanks for the response. The damper control assembly works. I updated my original post. The only question I have remaining is what to do about the temperature sensor (?) in the picture that shows the brown/gray tape. Thanks.

The thermistor should attach to the cover of the evaporator.
